The Western Isles has a strong musical culture and a huge wealth of talent amongst its people. Comhairle nan Eilean Siar developed the e-Cèilidh project, during the current period of lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic, to bring more music into people’s homes, bring our communities together through music and help to lift everyone’s spirits during these difficult times.
The aim is to involve musicians throughout our islands and beyond to contribute with recorded content, and allow as many people as possible to participate.
The e-Cèilidhs include items from a mix of musical genre and it is hoped that in time, as the bank of contributions and hosts grows, that we may be able to have specific themed nights eg. Rock night, Gaelic song night, Youth led night etc.
Initially we planned to broadcast live once a fortnight on Saturday evenings, through this website and the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar official channels, and each e-Cèilidh included a live host who may also have performed a few numbers as well as introducing recorded contributions from guests & members of our communities.
The first e-Cèilidh took place on Saturday 25th April at 7.30pm and the host was singer/songwriter Willie Campbell from Lewis. Full details of the programme for each e-Cèilidh would appear on the Upcoming broadcast page prior to each event.
